correspondent for the biggest Norwegian newspaper "Aftenposten" in Berlin
1939-45, and later in New York. When he wrote this book about the Jews he was a
teacher in the town of Drammen, Norway. Findahl claims in the foreword that his
book is based upon contacts with Jews all around the world--the photos he uses
of Jews in Germany and Palestine are flattering, but all his photos of Ostjuden
(in Poland, the USSR, and New York) come from Nazi sources and are very
unflattering. My Norwegian isn't good enough to weigh the nuances of the text,
but photos make me want to catalog it as Antisemitic; In any case, an excellent
example of popular Norwegian ideas about Jews on the eve of the Holocaust. 24

right of himself, his family, and other Jews to live in Sweden as Jews and to
establish a minyan, to build a synagogue, and to have a cemetery. Isak remained
